Western Crete

The Western part of the island of Crete features several penisulas in the north, Gramvousa in the far west, the Rodopos peninsula further east and finally the Akrotiri peninsula. The south is dominated by the White Mountains (Lefka Ori) with its deep gorges, among them the famous Samaria gorge. The northwest of Crete is relatively humid and as a result much greener than the rest of the island.
