The Aïr Mountains

The Aïr Mountains are a mountain range in the southern Sahara. Due to their altitude they are more humid than the surrounding desert and feature a large number of rare plants and animals. As such the Aïr has been declared an UNESCO world heritage site - together with parts of the adjacent Ténéré desert. This view shows the central part of the mountains from the southeast with the westmost part of the Ténéré in the foreground.
